Gutting a Fish

Gutting a Fish

Gutting a fish sounds more difficult than it actually is. Just by following a few simple steps, you can gut your own fish, with complete confidence in the end result. When cooking or smoking fish whole, or when filleting a fish, it is best to gut the fish first.

Step 1 - Insert the knife just in front of the anal fin.
Step 2 - Cut all the way up to the jawbone.
Step 3 - Remove the guts with your hand.  If need be, use your knife to loosen the firmly attached parts.
Step 4 - Wash out the gut cavity with water. It should get rid of all blood and organs.
Gutting complete.
